The Dubai Metro Has Hit Two Billion Riders
Incredible news! The Dubai Metro has hit a remarkable milestone of two billion riders since its opening in 2009.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently announced that the Dubai Metro has surpassed two billion riders since its launch in September 2009. The Red Line served 1.342 billion commuters, while the Green Line served 673.531 million commuters. This achievement not only demonstrates the exceptional operational efficiency of the Dubai Metro but also reflects a positive shift in the community’s mindset towards public transport.
The Dubai Metro’s average daily ridership surpassed 616,000 riders in 2022, indicating that the RTA’s efforts to increase public transportation usage are succeeding. This growth is attributed to several factors, including the opening of new stations as part of the Route 2020 project and the effective measures taken to ensure quick recovery from the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to streamlining the mobility of residents and visitors across the emirate, the Dubai Metro has played a crucial role in stimulating Dubai’s economic growth and boosting tourism, as well as contributing to the successful hosting of global events such as the Expo 2020 Dubai and the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Commenting on this occasion, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, praised the RTA for its efforts in implementing quality projects that cater to the mobility needs of the community. He described the Dubai Metro as the backbone of a transit system that connects various key districts in the emirate, ensuring safe and smooth mobility for riders.
The Dubai Metro holds its standing as the world’s longest driverless metro project and is known as the flagship project of both the RTA as well as Dubai’s public transport network. With 89.3 km of track and 53 stations served by a fleet of 129 trains, the facilities, and services available at the Dubai Metro stations are among the best globally.
The Dubai Metro’s consistent growth in ridership over the years is a testament to the RTA’s commitment to providing efficient, safe, and sustainable transportation options for the community. As the Dubai Metro continues to expand and evolve, it is set to play an event more significant role in the emirate’s development and future.
